After witnessing the combat success of the RX-78 Gundam, the Earth Federation's engineers create a set of upgrade parts for the prototype mobile suit. When the Gundam docks with this assembly of additional weapons, armor, and thruster engines, it forms the fighting machine known as the G-Armor. When separated from the Gundam, the upgrade parts become the self-sufficient G-Fighter. The components of the Gundam and G-Armor can also recombine to form a variety of specialized fighting vehicles, such as the tank-like G-Bull and the G-Sky fighter.
